Paul Voigt (1859 Berlin - 1924 Berlin) war ein renommierter Kupferstecher und Lithograph und in den 1890er Jahren künstlerischer Leiter in der Reichsdruckerei in Berlin. Er hielt Vorlesungen über Druckkunst an der Berliner Akademie, entwarf Schrifttypen wie die Cicero-Voigtische-Gotisch und zahlreiche Exlibris. Das vorliegende Skizzenbuch enthält Studien zu historischen Ornamenten und Schmuckelementen sowie einige figürliche Darstellungen, teils nach Vorlagen. So etwa den Kopf einer Viper nach einer Illustration aus `Art et Décoration`, Januar 1906 oder Segelschiffe nach Abbildungen in `Studio` Juli 1903. Der weitaus größte Teil der Zeichnungen beschäftigt sich aber mit der Gestaltung und dem ornamentalen Schmuck von Titelblättern und Einbänden. Einige der Studien sind mit Hinweisen zu Materialien und Farben versehen. Unter einer Darstellung findet sich der Vermerk `Adresse P. Behrens`. Die beiden vorletzten Blätter zeigen Renaissancemöbel, auf der letzten Seite ist eine Ankündigung des Einhorn-Verlags in München für die Dürer-Bilbel eingeklebt. 49 Seiten des Skizzenbuches sind unbenutzt geblieben. - Die ersten und letzten Seiten leicht fleckig, sonst sehr wohlerhalten und frisch.
