Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This two-part book traces the literary and historic study of the story of the 'Wooing of Rebekah' in the Hebrew Bible and its creative interpretations in Rabbinic Midrash. Part 1 treats such issues as the characterization of the narrative agents in the biblical story, the use of repetition as a narrative structuring device, and the question as to the roles of Rebekah and Isaac in this story as well as in the broader Isaac-Rebekah narratives. Part 2 follows several rabbinic interpretations of this story, dealing with, among other topics, the development of the motif of Rebekah's virginity in rabbinic aggadah and halakha as well as the reception of this theme in modern feminist studies of midrash. While treating these topics, this is at the same time a methodological inquiry into the dynamics of midrashic interpretation, treating rabbinic techniques such as 'gap-filling' and 'linkage', and its differences from modern biblical exegesis. Bible and Midrash Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Memory - Papers Read at the Jewish and Christian Perspectives Conference, Utrecht 2022 connects past, present, and future. This conference volume demonstrates the diversity of 'memory' in the Jewish and Christian traditions. 'Memory' turns out to be a key to investigating and better understanding many aspects of Judaism and Christianity, including their mutual relationship. In these traditions, memory is not simply about recalling events, but about preserving identity, culture, and divine teachings. The act of remembering is central to how communities pass down their religious beliefs, laws, and moral frameworks across generations. It also plays a role in communal cohesion, ensuring that the experiences of the fathers and their wisdom would not get lost, but rather actively re-lived and celebrated.

This bilingual fauna delivers the state of knowledge on the taxonomy and distribution of freshwater and brackish water fish from western central Africa (ichthyological province of Lower Guinea). The study covers the region from the Cross River in south-eastern Nigeria to the Republic of Congo, including Cabinda. Lower Guinea has its own ichthyological identity, with a fauna diversity comprising some 580 species, many of which are endemic. This book follows on from the West African fish fauna published in 2003 in this collection. The taxonomic classification is given by family with a set of keys common to all the genera. For each species, the reader will find an illustrated description of the essential morphological characteristics as well as a distribution map for freshwater species. As the disappearance of the rainforest accelerates and entire sectors of Lower Guinea remain to be explored, this work constitutes for ecologists, fisheries managers and decision-makers an essential document for the preservation of the ecosystems of this region. Paris, Marseille, Tervuren. Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, IRD & MRAC. 1456 pp., num. figs [drawings + photographs, distribution maps], br. gr. 8 [16.5 x 24 cm].
