There was a great interest in his paintings, and speculation mounted as to whether his first opus, 'Christ Before Pilate' was religious or philosophical. Munkacsy himself assisted in the discussion when he stated in an interview "I intended to portrait God appearing in a human body." Book is replete with Munkacsy's color paintings, with special emphasis on his major three: 'Christ Before pilate', 'Golgotha', and 'Ecce Homo.' Commentary and descriptive text is in Hungarian.
