Welche Werke standen zu jener Zeit im Mittelpunkt der Konzertprogramme? Ist das Konzertschaffen Beethovens wirklich der maßgebliche Bezugspunkt f…ür die weitere Geschichte der Gattung im 19. Jahrhundert oder haben nicht bislang wenig beachtete Kompositionen aus der Zeit um 1830 die weitere Geschichte der Gattung entscheidend beeinflusst? Die Studie konzentriert sich auf Werke von Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Friedrich Kalkbrenner, J. P. Pixis, Ignaz Moscheles, Ferdinand Ries, Norbert Burgmüller, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy und Frederic Chopin. - Zu Beginn steht eine Analyse des Repertoires der zwanziger und dreißiger Jahre des 19. Jahrhunderts: Nicht Werke von Beethoven, sondern von Hummel, Ries, Kalkbrenner, Moscheles u.a. dominierten die Konzertprogramme. Das Interesse fokussiert sich auf fünf Konzerte dieser Komponisten. Die formale Disposition wird unter dem Aspekt des Solo-Tutti-Verhältnisses und der klanglichen wie akustischen Möglichkeiten im Konzertsaal betrachtet. Ein Exkurs gilt den "Gesangstellen", die in der Forschung bislang kaum Beachtung gefunden haben. Vor dem Hintergrund dieses "Standardrepertoires" arbeitet der Autor dann Besonderheiten jüngerer Klavierkonzerte von Burgmüller und Mendelssohn Bartholdy heraus: Beide knüpften explizit an Beethoven an und schufen Werke, deren Solopart dem Orchester gleichberechtigt zur Seite gestellt ist. Formal stärker zyklisch ausgerichtet, greifen diese Kompositionen Elemente der Symphonik auf. Chopin wiederum übernahm weitgehend die formalen Merkmale der "Standardwerke" samt ihrer satztechnischen Eigenschaften. Mit ihren verschiedenen formalen Ansätzen erweisen sich die analysierten Klavierkonzerte als eigenständige und für die weitere Geschichte der Gattung wegweisende Werke. Der Band weist darüber hinaus im Anhang die Klavierkonzert-Aufführungen in den Berichten der Allgemeinen musikalischen Zeitung 1825-1834 nach und verzeichnet die Werke für Klavier und Orchester von vier ausgewählten Klavierkonzert-Komponisten in tabellarischer Form. 249 Seiten mit 76 Notenbeispielen, 5 Abb. und 10 Tabellen, broschiert (Berliner Musik Studien; Band 26/Studiopunkt Verlag 2003).
