Due to new EU packaging regulations, we are currently unable to ship to many EU countries. Shipping to Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, and the Baltic states is possible. Deliveries to border-based parcel lockers or cross-border parcel forwarding services remain possible. Shipping to all countries outside the EU also remains possible. Sprache: Französisch Gewicht in Gramm: 150 fester Kunstdruckkarton, Blattgröße 30 x 20 cm.

Leather. Condición: Good. A scarce three volume collection of the prose and poetry of George Granville, 1st Baron Lansdowne. ESTC Citation No. T92916. With a frontispiece to volume one. Duodecimo. With the unpaginated 'Verses Written in a Leaf of the Author's Poems presented to the Queen' to the rear of volume three. This is the first issue of the three volume 1736 edition with "printed for J. and R. Tonson, at Shakespear"s Head in the Strand, and L. Gilliver, J. Clarke, at Homer"s Head in Fleetstreet" to the title page. A reissue of this set was printed for Tonson and others in the same year with a collective title page. First published in two volumes in 1732. In his preface, Lansdowne explains that he was 'prevailed upon to give way to this present publication' because of the mistakes present in the numerous pirate editions of his work in circulation. Alongside his political career, Lord Lansdowne was a reputed poet and playwright, stylistically similar to Dryden. He was an early supporter of Alexander Pope, serving as his first patron. A scarce set of this early collection of Granville's works. In contemporary calf. Externally sound with rubbing to the extremities, joints and boards resulting in slight loss to the leather. Contemporary ink inscriptions to front free endpapers of all volumes. Offsetting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just the odd spot and marginal age toning. Frontispiece is closely cropped, not affecting the image. Good. G. Kneller (ilustrador). book.

Half-Leather. Condición: Good. 3rd Edition. A good copy of 3rd enlarged edition of this scarce work, which was at one time, the standard work on english history. Complete in one volume. With frontispiece portrait of Echard; title page (an extremely good facsimile on high quality conservation grade paper); portrait of Georgius Rex; dedication to the King 6 pp; Preface 4 pp; Contents 4 pp; Introduction, books I-IV pp 1-408; Preface pp 409-412; Introduction p 416; books I-II pp 417-663; half title 'The History of England Vol the Second'; book III pp 667-766; Preface 2 pp; books I-III pp 769-1150; Index 33 pp. The binding is recent half morocco with marbled boards and title and author labels to spine. It is in near fine condition. The endpapers are new. There has been expert paper repair to strengthen the edges of the first and last few pages (presumably damaged when the original binding was failing). As indicated earlier the title page is a very good facsmile. The contents have some browned and marked sections, but the majority of pages are in good clean condition with some light toning to the paper. The top corner of p 378 is missing with no text loss. The decorative initial capitals and head and tailpieces are particularly fine. G Kneller and G Vertue (ilustrador).

Print. Condición: Very good condition. First printing. Large and impressive mezzotint of Prince William, Duke of Gloucester (1689-1700), who was the son of Princess Anne, later Queen of England, Ireland and Scotland from 1702, and her husband, Prince George, Duke of Cumberland. He was their only child to survive infancy. This mezzotint portrait is after a painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller. It15836 shows William as a child, half length in an oval, long hair, wearing neck cloth, coat, sash, and badge with star. It was issued in 1700, the year that the unfortunate young man died. Lettered with title, production details along bottom: 'G. Kneller Eques pinx: 1699.', 'I. Smith fec:', and 'Sold by I. Smith at ye Lyon & Crown in Russel-street Covent-Garden'. Chaloner Smith 113.II. The second state, with the framing around the oval portrait lighter than later states, but with the addition of 'Nat: 24 Denat: 30 [brackets] die Iulij [brackets] 1689. 1700.' below the title. "Gloucester's death, in 1700 at the age of eleven, precipitated a succession crisis as his mother was the only individual remaining in the Protestant line of succession established by the Bill of Rights 1689. The English Parliament did not want the throne to revert to a Catholic, and so passed the Act of Settlement 1701, which settled the throne of England on Electress Sophia of Hanover, a cousin of King James II, and her Protestant heirs." (Wikipedia). Oval portrait 11 5/8 x 9 1/2". Impression mark 13 5/8 x 9 7/8". Small but acceptable margins. Trimmed close to the impression line, a little even toning. A small rub and scratch in black ground of oval, a small closed nick in the upper right edge repaired archivally. The initial "G" of the artist faint otherwise a strong impression.
