Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: vg. Fifth Edition. 4to. 569pp. Green cloth with embossed gold lettering to cover and spine. Illustrated half-title and title page: Half-title is in German, in Gothic script with red and black lettering; title page is in English with copper vignette. A magnificent edition of the complete musical score of Ric…hard Wagner's renowned three-act opera, "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg": Die "Meistersinger von Nürnberg" [as it was called in the original German] is an opera that has a unique place in Richard Wagner's oeuvre. It is the only comedy he wrote. As well, this is the only Wagner- opera that has does not revolve around a myth or legend. Instead, it is set in a clear historic time and place. Furthermore, this is the only opera which story was written by Wagner himself. As for the music, it incorporates many of the conventions that Wagner had protested against in his essays, like arias, a ballet, choruses, a quintet, and rhymed verse. (Source: Public Domain). Contains the whole musical score and the text in German and English. Minor age wear to binding, especially at edges. Minor browning throughout. Otherwise clean and tight. In English and German. Very good condition. Richard Wagner (1813-1883). Renowned German composer, music theorist and essayist. Wagner regarded himself as "the most German of men". He has been classified as an anarchist and a socialist and, simultaneously, as a proto-fascist and nationalist, as a vegetarian and an anti-Semite. In fact, his name appeared in connection to almost all major trends in German history of the 19th and 20th centuries. (Hannu Salmi). He was Hitler's favorite composer and the Nazi's used him as an example of "pure German art.".
