A single issue of this magazine featuring articles such as 'Has Islam a Future,' examining Islam and its role in the Western world; 'The Negro Question in the South,' studying the treatment of African-Americans in the South during Reconstruction and after, especially in relation to politics and the political parties; 'The social and economic influences of the bicycle;' and a lengthy section 'Symposium on Women's Dress,' examining women's fashions and their constrictive nature, as well as their hindrance on college women versus college men, and including a section on new possible, less constricting fashions for women (with a few illustrations). The Arena was a progressive magazine published and edited by Benjamin Orange Flower in the late 1800's, noted for examining various social causes of the time. GOOD condition, ex-historical society, with a stamp, blindstamp and faint call letters in pencil on the front cover. Minor soiling, some darkening and a few stray pencil marks to the front cover. Minor chipping and scuffing along the extremities. Spine darkened. Interior solid with minor toning. A small tear present in the fore edge margin of one page.
