Kimmo Sarje is a doctor of philosophy and a visual artist. He participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York in 1986û1987. He is Adjunct Professor of Aesthetics at the University of Helsinki and lecturer at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts, Helsinki. He has worked as a researcher, critic, curator and artist. In all these roles, he has steeped himself in issues of modernity, postmodernity and socialism. Sarje has written and edited numerous books about art, architecture and philosophy, and he has works in the collections of major art museums in Finland. His montage exhibition Apartment on the Prospect, which examined Finland, Karelia and Russia, was presented in Helsinki in 2011. The study analyzes the starting points and changes of both Frosterus's architecture and his modern worldview. The First World War made Frosterus retreat from his attitude emphasizing science and control of nature and adopt an ethical perspective that takes care of humanity as a species.
