Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. 'Here Comes Everybody' is a phrase that echoes repeatedly through the shifting dream-narrative of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. It aptly captures the intense poetry of this new collection of photographs by Chris Killip, taken over repeated trips to Ireland between 1993 and 2005. On each visit Killip attended the annual pilgrimages at Croagh Patrick and Mman in the west of Ireland, places of wild beauty and ancient spirituality. His poignant photographs convey the dedication and community of the modern pilgrims' journey as they make their way across shingled mountainsides to take part in age-old rites. Images of the pilgrims' trek are complemented by landscapes, townscapes and details photographed in the west of Ireland and beyond. Presented as a facsimile of an album of prints from a decade of travels, this book includes the first colour photographs Killip has ever published. The book is in very good, nearly new condition, complete with dust jacket. Dust jacket slightly bumped on bottom edge; otherwise very good.

4° (31 x 21,5 cm.). 93 S. mit 50 Tafeln. Publishers cloth binding with illustrated dust jacket. Auer 675. Parr/Badger II, 299. Roth, The Open Book 340 f. - First edition; inscribed by C. Killip "For Victor on 4 OB, Hasty Pudding Club, + Harvard All the best Chris". - "In Flagrante is a singulary original work of art, both passionate and partisan. This is not an objective report. Killip tells his personal tale through these pictures, but he also allows his subjects' collective story a clear voice of its own. The pictures in In Flagrante - primarily candid portraits and urban landscapes made in rich-toned black and white, predominantly shot with a 4x5 camera - were made in the northeast of England during the premiership of Margaret Thatscher. In Flagrante is a dark, pessimistic journey, perhaps even a secret odyssey, where rigorous documentary is suffused with a contemplative inwardness, a rare quality in modern photography" (Parr/Badger). - "Renowned documentary photographer and former professor of visual and environmental studies Chris Killip died from lung cancer on Oct. 13. He was 74. Killip was a professor of photography in VES (now Art, Film, and Visual Studies) from 1991 to 2017, and the department chair from 1994 to 1998. For more than two decades, he had worked from the basement of the Carpenter Center, sharing his love of the art form with students and colleagues. . In 1988, Killip published his second and most famous book of photographs, "In Flagrante," which captured the everyday fallout from deindustrialization and economic decline in northeastern England in the 1970s and 1980s. His arresting documentary style of photography captured the attention of critics and viewers alike, and Killip received the inaugural Henri Cartier-Bresson Award, now called le Prix HCP. . "His photographs embodied Henri Cartier-Bresson's emphasis on the decisive moments, and Josef Koudelka's eye for the surreal. He captured in arresting black-and-white photographs fleeting moments filled with powerful emotions," said AFVS Professor Sharon Harper. "He was looking closely at people, labor, and the plight of the worker." The introductory photography course VES 40a, which he ran for many years, accommodated 100 students split into 10 sections. Even with so many spots, said Moss, the class often attracted two or three times as many students as it could accommodate. "Chris leaves quite a legacy of his documentary photography, which is known internationally, but also he has a legacy of students who were devoted to him and discovered photography through their studies with him," added Harper" (M. Aggarwal-Schifellite, Documentary photographer Chris Killip dies at 74, The Harvard Gazette, October 21, 2020). - A very fine copy of the rare hardback edition. Sprache: englisch.

Condición: Wie neu. Steidl, Göttingen, 2006. First edition, first printing. Wonderful photobook by the maker of the legendary "In Flagrante" (Martin Secker and Warburg, London, 1988; Martin Parr, The Photobook vol 2, page 299. 802 photo books from the M. + M. Auer collection, page 675). Cloth with jacket. 350 x 208 mm. 128 pages. With 50 tritone illustrations. With an essay by Clive Dilnot. Text: english. Condition: Book inside and outside new, mint, unread. Dustjacket with slightest trace of use with no tears or other defects. Overall near mint, like new condition! "I wanted to show the manufacturing process as clearly as I could and to do so in this factory meant it would have to be lit. Ironically, my stubborness in trying to avoid lighting would now have its own unexpected rewards. Because of the desperate amount of time that I had spent there, I knew in a visual way the processes of the factory; the rhythms and cycles of the machines, the movement and steps that the operators had to take, the movement that the processes predetermined for them. I began again, rephotographing the factory using lights, sometimes three or four lights triggered by remote control devices. The main light, the one balanced to light the subject, was often held on a pole by my friend, away from the camera, mimicking the fashion techniques that I knew from my past. I now understood and knew what I wanted to do. The workplace had become, in a real sense for me, a theatre and I embraced the look of these new photographs with their relation to fashion, film noir, and even Soviet realism. For me this 'look' seemed a more telling way to record and document this enforced ritual."***************Steidl, Göttingen, 2006. Erstausgabe. Originalausgabe. Wunderschönes Fotobuch vom Macher des legendären "In Flagrante" (Martin Secker and Warburg, London, 1988; Martin Parr, The Photobook vol 2, page 299. 802 photo books from the M. + M. Auer collection, page 675). Hardcover mit Schutzumschlag. 350 x 208 mm. 128 Seiten. Mit 50 Fotos in schwarz-weiss. Mit einem Essay von Clive Dilno. Text: englisch. (Chris Killip) Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1600.

Hardback with dustjacket. 297 x 297 mm. 96 pages. Text in english. Perfect condition! Collector`s copy! "Thirty years after the publication of the Isle of Man book I was in the process of preparing for my retrospective exhibition at the Museum Folkwang in Germany and started to re-examine my Isle of Man negatives. I hadn`t had an occasion to think about this work since the first edition of the book was published. Going through these negatives again I found new images that I now liked, but at the time had overlooked or had not used for reasons that now mystify me. I ended up with 250 photographs that I now think of as my Isle of Man archive. This new version of Isle of Man draws from that archive. The photographs in this edition keep, more or less, to the same order as the original book but I have changed some of the images, added thirty others, and printed them all larger." Hardcover (as issued). 285 x 375 mm. 80 pages. 72 photos. Text in english. Perfect condition! Collector`s copy! "Late in 2016 Chris Killip`s son serendipitously discovered a box of contact sheets of the photos his father had made at The Station, an anarcho-punk music venue in Gateshead open from 1981 to 1985. These images of raw youth caught in the heat of celebration had lain dormant for 30 years; they now return to life in this book. The Station was not merely a music and rehearsal space, but a crucible for the self-expression of the sub-cultures and punk politics of the time. As Killip recollects: `When I first went to The Station in April 1985, I was amazed by the energy and feel of the place. It was totally different, run for and by the people who went there. Every Saturday that I could, I photographed there. Nobody ever asked me where I was from or even who I was. A 39-year-old with cropped white hair, always wearing a suit, with pockets stitched inside the jacket to hold my slides. With a 4 × 5 camera around my neck and a Norman flash and its battery around my waist, I must have looked like something out of a 1950s B movie. 1985 was just after the miners strike and there was a lot of youth unemployment. Most of the punks at The Station didn`t have a job, and this place, run as a very inclusive collective, was so important to them and their self-worth.`" (from the publisher)***************Steidl, Göttingen. 2020. Collector`s copy! (Chris Killip) Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1600.

Wonderful enlarged version of the famous photobook classic from 1988: Martin Parr, The Photobook vol 2, page 299. 802 photo books from the M. + M. Auer collection, page 675. Hardcover with dustjacket. 364 x 288 mm. 110 pages. Photographs in tritone printing. Text in English. Scarce first printing! Perfect condition! Signed by the artist! Collector`s copy! "The photographs that Chris Killip made in Northern England between 1973 and 1985 were first published by Secker & Warburg in the book In Flagrante in 1988. The new oversized Steidl edition is a radically updated presentation, showing a single image on the right side of each double-page spread. In Flagrante Two is strident in its belief in the primacy of the photograph, embracing ambiguities and contradictions in an unadorned narrative sequence devoid of text."
