Il retient pourtant notre attention à plus d'un titre. Des explorateurs de la grande expédition allemande de 1860, v. Beurmann est en effet celui qui a approché au plus près le but de cette mission: atteindre le Ouadaï et recueillir des informations sur Vogel, explorateur dont on était sans nouvelles depuis plusieurs années [.] Ce qui fait l'intérêt majeur de cette aventure, c'est la situation des régions traversées. Sa première expérience africaine, v. Beurmann la fit en Nubie et au Soudan.
