Pages lightly toned but otherwise unmarked. From the library of psychiatrist Jurgen Ruesch (1909-1995), with his stamp "Jurgen Ruesch / Dr. med." on the front free endpaper. Ruesch trained in medicine at the University of Zurich and went on to a distinguished career at the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute of the University of California, San Francisco; he is best known to historians of psychiatry and communication theory for his collaboration with Gregory Bateson on "Communication: The Social Matrix of Psychiatry" (1951), a foundational text of the Palo Alto group on communication and family systems. A standard German-language reference work on psychotherapy as it stood in 1927, gathering chapter-length contributions from leading figures of interwar German and Austrian psychiatry: Karl Birnbaum on the theoretical foundations of psychotherapy; Ernst Jolowicz on suggestive therapy; Gustav R.
