Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Signed by the bookplate designer, Carl S. Junge, on front colophon in black ink: "Carl S. Junge." No. 77 of 200 copies printed. Front colophon: "Of this book two hundred copies were printed on Van Gelder paper in May, 1916, this being Number 77." Original publisher's brown-gray paper-covered boar…ds (with all-over wood grain pattern) backed with solid light beige paper. Gilt lettering on front cover. No lettering on spine. 6 1/4" x 9 1/4." Ten pages (introduction) and twenty-eight additional pages of illustrations (bookplate designs by Carl S. Junge), complete. Twenty-eight bookplate illustrations (most in black-and-white; one in color) by Junge, complete. Pages are clean and intact overall except for light age toning and occasional marks or stains. Covers are clean and intact overall but have light rubbing, moderate wear to extremities, surface chipping on paper portions of binding, and light age toning. A Very Good copy. This is a collection of bookplate designs by bookplate artist Carl S. Junge (1880-1972) who was based in Oak Park, Illinois. During his career, Junge received many commendations for his work. In her introduction, Zella Allen Dixon briefly describes the work of Junge and highlights several examples of his bookplates featured herein. Following the introduction are twenty-eight examples of Junge's bookplates. The bookplates feature a variety of subject matter for different clients. The following are the names of the clients and a description of the bookplate design. 1) Leroy Goble; man resembling a bookworm surrounded by books and reading one. 2) John Farson; three peacocks walk up to a house; the ornate tail feathers of one extend outside of the frame. 3) Lewis Clifford Fiske; a musketeer vehemently points to a book who Dixon says is a tongue-in-cheek reference to Fiske's proclamation that the copy that would have had this bookplate does indeed belong to him. 4) Winifred Goble; Minimalist design with trees, a path, and full moon. 5) Chester Ward; a children's bookplate design showing a child (perhaps Ward) at center surrounded by a few figures including Humpty Dumpty. 6) Eugene Katz; three Greco-Roman figures (a man and two women) are seated or stand next to a statue in a garden. 7) R. S. Page; simple design with books, quill, and ink bottle. 8) James Winthrop; the only color plate; Pilgrim next to a tree with hills in background. 9) Maud Dean; circular design incorporating a peacock. 10) Lutie Dore; woman in partially concealed by her armchair, reading, in a room with a potted plant and a black cat nearby. 10) J. R. Clay; man engrossed in reading, seated, rests his left index on forehead; owl perched on his chair; artist's palette in foreground. 11) The Gobles; bust of William Shakespeare. 12) Edward N. Ewer; scenic park with trees and winding path. 13) Donald Mackenzie; a man, back turned, wears a traditional checkered Scottish outfit and looks at part of a castle. 14) Burton Holmes; sphinx and pyramid. 15) Lula M'Fagan; a lampshade conceals the face of a woman reading a book at a table. 16) Edwin Winter; snowy forest clearing. 17) Etta Corbett; a male painter at work. 18) Leo F. Fagan; graphical work with names of famous authors doubling as a graphic design. 19) Anna Black; lamp perched on books. 20) Fred Ward; simple design with rays behind clouds and small emblems at bottom. 21) Otto Collins; optical illusion where Collins's name forms a face. 22) Andrew Drake; man reads as an owl holds up a lamp to provide light. 23) Rose Reade; Art Nouveau style; woman reading in a decorative interior. 24) Charles Lawrence; finely detailed; a scenic park with trees. 25) Roy Weis; a boy places both hands over a book. 26) Thomas Burke; castle and trees with water in foreground, mountains in background. 27) Fannie Corbett Junge; decorative rose and leaf background. 28) C. S. Junge; optical illusion where Junge's name partially forms the eyes of an owl perched on a book. Junge, Carl S. (ilustrador). Signed by Illustrator(s).
