Publisher's marbled boards, vellum spine, title on green label affixed to the spine. Top edge gilt. Lacking scarce cardboard slipcase. Faint toning to vellum spine, otherwise fine. Internally clean. (Halter 193, B) Housed in custom half leather chemise, title on spine with decorative bands. One of six copies to appear on the public market since publication. From a limited edition of 75 copies printed by the Government Printing Office for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, this being number 54, initialed on limitation page by "F.D.R." Additional inscription on front free endpaper: "For Johnny and Anne / with a Happy Christmas + love from Franklin D. Roosevelt." This limited edition is the fifth Christmas book issued by the White House, covering 10 notable addresses from 1940-41. This copy is inscribed to John Aspinwall Roosevelt (1916-1981) and his wife, Anne Clark. John Roosevelt was the youngest child of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. He attended Groton School and Harvard College, graduating in 1938. Following in his father's footsteps, John pursued a career in law, earning his degree from Harvard Law School in 1940. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant. After the war, he practiced law in New York City, focusing primarily on corporate law. John Aspinwall Roosevelt was also actively involved in various philanthropic endeavors throughout his life, including serving on the boards of charitable organizations. He passed away in 1981. Paper Wrappers. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. 16 pages. 229 x 154 mm. Robert Edward Dell (1865 - 1940) was a British journalist and socialist activist. Dell joined the Fabian Society in 1889, and served on its executive from 1890. He lectured widely for the society, particularly in Lancashire, but left London in 1893 to become the editor of the Surrey Mirror. Dell joined the Catholic church in 1897, and thereafter became a prominent modernist and anti-fascist writer within the church. He continued to work as an editor, moving to the Review of the Week in 1900, then The Connoisseur in 1902. However, in 1906 he moved to Paris, becoming an art dealer, and remaining there through World War I. In 1918, Dell became the Paris correspondent for the Manchester Guardian, but he was expelled from the country, and moved to Geneva. He continued to work as a foreign correspondent for British newspapers, spending time in Berlin, back in Paris, and then again in Geneva. In 1939, he moved to New York, and died there the following year.

The Magic Walking Stick is a 1932 novel by the Scottish author John Buchan, his only novel for children. This is the 1932 original. IT IS NOT PRINT ON DEMAND. It is in excellent condition with a tight, straight binding, sunning on the binding and slight foxing to some pages.
