Soft cover. Condición: New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Rare. This attractive soft cover volume is 384 pages in length, with a map, and numerous high quality color, and black-and-white illustrations of 175 objects from the Museum's considerable holdings. A splendid introduction to the Egyptian collection of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen. Our copy is unread, and is in impeccable condition. It is virtually brand new. Photographs are available. "The Egypt of New Kingdom (1550-1080 B.C.) was an imperialist military power whose rule extended beyond the Nile Valley, over what is today Syria, Lebanon, Israel and part of Sudan. While the subject peoples paid tribute, gold poured in from the mines in the conquered African territories and the international trade routes flourished. During this era Egypt was greater, stronger and wealthier than at any time before or since. This was an age when both kings and gods was represented by colossal sculptures; when officials commissioned statues, tomb paintings and stelae of rare quality; a period whose decorative arts are exemplified by works at once luxurious and elegant. This catalogue contains 175 works from that flamboyant and luxurious epoch. Each is illustrated and accompanied by a brief description. The introduction contains a historical perspective as well as sections dealing with religion and art".…

Soft cover. Condición: New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Rare. This soft cover book is 359 pages in length, and is filled with exceptionally high quality color, and black-and-white illustrations. The volume is a splendid introduction to the considerable collection of Egyptian bronzes in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen. Our copy is unread and is in impeccable condition. It is virtually brand new. Photographs are available. "The Egyptians completely mastered the art of bronze-casting. This catalogue describes no fewer than 200 figures, many of which are small masterpieces. The collection was assembled by the founder of the Glyptotek, the brewing magnate Carl Jacobsen, and his Egyptologist, Valdemar Schmidt, around the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Together they strove to build a pantheon, i.e. a gallery which would present the world of the Egyptian gods to the Glyptotek's visitors. For this purpose the bronze figures were -- and still are -- ideal, as no other Egyptian art form presents so many different gods, goddesses and sacred animals as the art of the bronze-caster. The technical process of bronze-casting, the original purpose of the bronze figures and the history of the collection are described in the catalogue's introduction, and at the back of the book is a short mythological glossary. All the figures are illustrated clearly with colour photographs".…
