Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Owen, Wilfred; edited and introduced by Jon Stallworthy. The Poems of Wilfred Owen. New York: W. W. Norton & Company, 1986. First American Edition, Third Printing. Trade paperback. Third printing (1986) of the First American Edition, derived from Jon Stallworthy's definitive Complete Poems and Fragments (1983). This Norton edition offers the finest single-volume presentation of Owen's complete poetic canon including 103 poems and 12 fragments, together with comprehensive textual notes and a biographical table. Edited and introduced by Stallworthy, whose scholarship reframed Owen's legacy for modern readers, the volume restores authoritative texts and variant readings drawn from Owen's manuscripts and notebooks. This copy is in very good condition overall: covers clean and bright with light edgewear; spine uncreased and binding firm; pages crisp and unmarked. A solid, attractive example of this important 20th-century war poetry edition. Ideal for both study and collection. Colophon states 'First American Edition 1986' with complete number line 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0, identifying this as the third printing of the first U.S. edition. Originally published in the U.K. by Chatto & Windus (1983) as the two-volume Complete Poems and Fragments; this Norton issue represents the first authorized single-volume edition available in America. Wilfred Owen (1893-1918) was an English poet and soldier whose firsthand experience in the trenches of the First World War transformed his writing into a powerful critique of patriotic myth and military brutality. Killed in action one week before the Armistice, Owen left behind a small but profoundly influential body of work, including 'Anthem for Doomed Youth,' 'Dulce et Decorum Est,' and 'Strange Meeting.' His poetry, marked by compassion, realism, and technical mastery, cemented his reputation as the foremost voice of the Great War generation. Jon Stallworthy (1935-2014) was a British poet, critic, and Oxford professor whose biographical and editorial work on Owen, including Wilfred Owen: The War Poems and the Man and Complete Poems and Fragments, established the modern textual standard for Owen scholarship.…

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Oxford University Press Edition. Paperback. The Oxford Book of War Poetry. Tiny nip to bottom edge of front cover. There can be no area of human experience that has generated a wider range of powerful feelings than war; hope and fear; exhilaration and humiliation; hatred and love. Many early war-songs were exhortations to action, or celebrations of action. More recently, war poetry has been implicity, if not explicity, anti-war as poets more and more have responded to 'man's inhumanity to man' - and to women and children. The selection is arranged chronologicallly by conflict, to produce a history of warfare as seen by the most elequent observers and chroniclers. 358 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.).…
