Second printing. An important issue of Cogito, the theoretical and discussion journal of the (British) Young Communist League, which was devoted to the first part of a proposed three part series on Leon Trotsky by British Communist Party theoretician Monty Johnstone. According to a preface in the second printing, 2,000 copies of the first run of this issue sold out in three weeks forcing a second printing. Johnstone's article was a response to a challenge issued in Keep Left, the journal of the Young Socialists (Trotskyist), and provoked a seven-and-a-half page response in that journal, as well as a challenge to debate Gerry Healy of the Socialist Labour League. It also spurred the publication of a 450-page book, Lenin and Trotsky: What They Really Stood For (1969) by Alan Woods and Ted Grant. Although parts 2 & 3 are advertised at the end of this issue, it took nearly eight years for part 2 to be published - also in Cogito - under the title "Trotsky and World Revolution" (the proposed title for part 2 in this issue was "Trotsky and the International Labour Movement").
