Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Original piano-vocal sheet music with banjo, ukulele, guitar, and mandola accompaniment; publisher number 8905. Words by Joe Young, music by Little Jack Little and John Siras. Yellow pictorial wrapper combines a photographic portrait of bandleader Abe Lyman, who successfully feature…d the song, with a signed cottage-and-landscape illustration by Ben R. Harris. Published at the height of the Depression, the song turns the humble 'shanty' into an affectionate image of home and contentment, and became a durable American popular standard. This copy also preserves an appealing piece of music-industry history: a tiny gutter advertisement urges customers to "Get This Song for Your Talking Machine and Player Piano," documenting the period when publishers marketed the same popular song simultaneously as printed music, phonograph recording, and player-piano entertainment. The rear wrapper advertises Witmark's long-running Black and White Series, providing additional publisher and Tin Pan Alley context. The cover illustration is attributed to Ben R. Harris (Benjamin Jorj Harris, 1904-1957), the Georgia-born commercial artist who later worked closely with his wife, Georgette Harris, known professionally as "Jorj." The husband-and-wife team became particularly associated with sophisticated airbrush illustration and jointly published the instructional book Airbrush Illustration in 1947 under the name Ben Jorj Harris. Ben Harris was also related to Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus stories, and later supplied original decorative watercolors to Newman Decor for postwar interiors. This 1932 commercial illustration represents an appealing early-career example of Harris' graphic work, considerably predating the airbrush work for which the Harris's later became known. Condition: Very Good. Complete and internally clean, with mild uniform age toning and light handling wear. Wrapper retains strong yellow color and a clear Abe Lyman portrait; minor edge and corner wear and small handling creases are visible. Central fold shows expected stress and a short separation/weakness at the lower fold, but the sheet remains intact and serviceable. No tape repairs, major losses, or intrusive owner markings. Edition/Printing: original 1932 M. Witmark & Sons copyright issue, copyright statement and publisher number 8905 present. No later copyright or reissue statement observed. Joe Young (1889-1939) was one of the major lyricists of Tin Pan Alley. Born in New York City, he began as a singer and professional song-plugger and became a charter member of ASCAP in 1914. Young was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Little Jack Little (1899-1956) - born John Leonard in London - was much more than a songwriter. After immigrating to the United States and growing up in Iowa, he became a pianist, vocalist, orchestra leader, recording artist, and nationally heard radio personality. He toured with his own orchestra and recorded prolifically during the 1930s for labels including Bluebird and Columbia. His importance to early American radio was eventually recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The third credited writer, John Siras, was actually a pseudonym of New York songwriter and publishing-house pianist Ira Schuster (1889-1946 - an appealing piece of Tin Pan Alley history hidden behind the name printed on this 1932 edition. Ben R. Harris (ilustrador).
