The material is chiefly a report of the work of British psychiatrists, which parallels that of Americans, and the remainder is a critical review of the effectiveness of their work. The author has a healthy regard for the psychodynamic approach and notes, among other things, the difficulties of medical men in understanding the psychiatric viewpoint, as well as the need for the psychiatrist to adjust himself to military life. This is recognised as a culturally important book.
