Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. This privately published first edition documents the rise and fall of Portland, Maine's iconic Union Station, built in 1888 and tragically demolished in 1961. John Marcigliano, longtime Portland Regional Vocational Technical Center instructor and local historian, reconstructs the station's architectural legacy and cultural impact through archival photographs, period advertisements, personal anecdotes, and a detailed chronology. The narrative follows Union Station from its celebrated opening through decades of heavy passenger use, to its decline and controversial destruction, preserving a vivid portrait of one of New England's most significant rail landmarks. The volume contains extensive black-and-white photographs, including historic views of arriving trains, the clock tower, period timetables, Maine State Grange travel posters, and the dramatic demolition sequence of 1961. A full chronology (1866-1933) traces the events surrounding the station's construction, usage, and ultimate demise. Also included is a short author biography describing Marcigliano's move to Maine in 1972 and his long-standing interest in local history. Softcover in Good+ condition: covers show light soiling, scattered foxing, and mild corner wear; rear panel foxed. Interior pages are clean, unmarked, and well-preserved, with sharp photographic plates. A period newspaper clipping, likely used as a bookmark, is loosely laid in. Binding is tight and square. A solid and increasingly uncommon copy of this locally produced history, printed in a small run and now scarce on the market. Edition/printing determination: no statement of later printings and no ISBN; as a privately issued title, this is presumed the First Edition (1991). The sticker from the previous owner (Robert H. Perry, South Portland, ME) appears on the copyright page. Cover art by Donald C. Patterson (ilustrador).…
