Rye House Plot bound with copies of the Informations and Original Papers Relating to Proof of the Horrid Conspiracy Against the Late King, His Present Majesty, and the Governmnt: as they were order'd to be published by His late Majesty.Signed by several principles including Robert Spencer 2nd Earl Sunderland, John Romzey, Nathan Toll [Towle], Thomas Brown Watson, M. Towlens[?], etc. Two parts bound as one. Folio 12" tall; 2 + 167 pages + 1 + 140 pages. There are many signatures scattered through this copy on pages relating to the principals involved, L. Jenkins, J. Ernle, R. Sawyer, H. Finch, as well as a one page handwritten genealogy of the Towle family beginning about 1745 with notes going to about 1834. The signatures are of the period, but cannot be authenticated. This is a later rebinding with gilt titles, decorations, and top edge, with the pages trimmed to a margin of about one inch all around, but the binding had begun to disintegrate. The hinges are broken with pieces of the backstrip missing. There is no title page for the first part, the text beginning with a dedication to James the Second. The second part includes the title page with date and publisher. The internal binding is secure. Paper quality ranges throughout from cream white to moderate yellowing with scattered foxing, with one page repaired long ago using a paper strip for reinforcing, but all could be rebound. This edition contains the repeated page numbers 63-64 (different text) and pages 105-06 omitted with no obvious textual loss. This is worthy of a fine rebinding and priced accordingly.
