Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. London & New York: Petersburg Press Ltd, 1975-1976. One of the most significant collaborations between a major modern writer and artist, Fizzles (Foirades) brings together five short prose texts by Samuel Beckett with an extensive series of original prints by Jasper Johns. Beckett's characteristically compressed prose explores fragments of consciousness, memory, perception, isolation, and the limits of language. Eschewing conventional narrative, the texts repeatedly approach the point at which thought, identity, and language begin to break down. Johns's imagery responds to these themes through repetition, ambiguity, and the material possibilities of printmaking, creating a sustained dialogue between word and image. The portfolio comprises 33 original etchings and aquatints by Jasper Johns, including two printed in color and five double-page compositions, together with one original color lithograph printed on the inner side of the cassette. The five texts by Beckett are printed in both English and French on Richard de Bas handmade paper, watermarked "SB" (Samuel Beckett) and "Jasper Johns." The original colored lithographs lining the cassette and the colored double-page aquatint endpapers establish a striking chromatic counterpoint to the predominantly monochromatic interior prints. Johns's contribution demonstrates his extraordinary command of printmaking techniques, exploiting subtle variations of line, tone, texture, and repetition to create images that remain deliberately elusive. The restrained visual language complements Beckett's reduction of narrative to fragments of thought, movement, memory, and perception. Together, the works form an unusually intimate correspondence between two artists whose practices repeatedly confront uncertainty, incompleteness, and the difficulty of representation. The edition was produced in 250 numbered copies, this being copy 31/250, and is signed by both Jasper Johns and Samuel Beckett. Printed in Paris by Crommelynck, the volume is presented in the original linen-coated cardboard cassette. Small folio (333 × 253 mm). Original plain wrappers, housed in the publisher's original white cloth-covered cassette, lined with original color lithographs by Johns.
