Both volumes newly illustrated by John Vernon Lord with 12 and 18 color plates respectively. Both volumes FINE without reservation showing no signs of wear at all; matchin printed slipcases show the slightest shelfwear but hardly worth mentioning.

The publishers, however, would not undertake the work without a series of letter-press notices of each picture from Thackeray; and the latter accordingly added some criticisms which are interesting as developing his theory of this kind of art" (p.32).
