The firm was established around 1870 when Arthur Bilbrough went into partnership with a Mr. Smith as shipowners and underwriters. They primarily owned and managed a fleet of large sailing vessels (clipper ships) and were involved in marine insurance. Ref F 6. Signed by Author(s).
