Hooper, of Tennessee, issued his call for the Southern Sociological Congress, and requested the governors of the other fifteen Southern States to cooperate with him in its development. The object was to bring together people interested in social welfare, for the purpose of studying and improving the social, civic and economic conditions of the South. The Congress met with about seven hundred delegates in attendance, representing twenty-eight states, the District of Columbia, Canada and Africa. Speakers addressed the problems of Child Welfare, Courts and Prisons, Public Health, Negro Problems, Education and Cooperation, The Church and Social Service, and Qualifications of Social Workers. This book is a record of the event.

The author, a prominent figure in the Southern Sociological Congress, compiles the works of notable contributors from both races to provide a nuanced understanding of the complex and often challenging dynamics that have shaped race relations in the South. The book covers a wide range of topics, from the post-Reconstruction era and the impact of Reconstruction on race relations to the challenges and opportunities faced by the black community in the early 20th century. It also delves into critical issues such as education, health, housing, and economic empowerment. The author argues that the time has come for a renewed commitment to addressing race relations with empathy, understanding, and a willingness to work together for the betterment of all. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating history of a remarkable movement that transformed the religious and social landscape of London. In the late 19th century, the Wesleyan Church initiated the Forward Movement, a bold adaptation of its methods and institutions to meet the urgent needs of the city's teeming slums and working-class communities. The author, through careful research and engaging anecdotes, traces the evolution of this movement, highlighting its key principles, successes, and challenges. The book provides a rich understanding of the movement's impact, from its role in revitalizing the Wesleyan Church to its far-reaching contributions to social welfare and religious outreach. Through its exploration of this pivotal movement, the book sheds light on the ongoing struggle to adapt religious practices to changing societal conditions and the enduring power of faith in addressing pressing social issues.
