Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fair. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. 1st Edition. 223 pages. Ex-library copy with consequent labels, annotations, usage and wear. Ivy Jacquier came from a very privileged background. Although, an artist she is best known for this diary that records a life that would be utterly impossible in the 21st century. Half French (her father was disowned for marrying a Protestant) she was proud of England, but was in love with France. In these pages she writes of England and France, these "two unblended nations, sapping our loyalty, our constancy". This is a first edition copy of her diary kept at the most formative stage of her life. It is in fair condition. The dustjacket has a tough, clear plastic protective cover that is marked, worn. The spine of the dj has a dewey classification label. A recommendation (from Mrs Robert Henrey) label is wrapped around the cover. There is evidence of usage and readership and library ownership throughout the book. The pages are relaxed, complete, clear, approachable. The foreword is by Sir Francis Meynell, the eminent publisher. The binding is comfortable and sure. The book may be read with the confidence of ease. fk. Añadir al carritoLimited edition. Number 246 of 1600 copies. 8vo. Pictorial cream cloth, paper title label lettered red to the spine. A very good copy, cloth a little dusty. Colour frontis plus 29 illustrations in line by Jacquier. Originally published in 1852, Graziella quickly became a part of the French popular culture and is generally considered to be a novel that must be read to understand the development of emotionalism in French literature. Ivy Jacquier's line drawings in this Nonesuch edition perfectly capture Lamartine's delicate analysis of his own emotional responses.…

Añadir al carrito8vo. Two copies. Original light red cloth with profile on front and title on spine in cream. Envelope attached inside back board for 'The Family Secret'. Top edge cut, others untrimmed. 1. Covers a bit faded, marked and tanned. Contents clean. Very good +. 2. Covers faded, marked and with a little splitting to the cloth at the spine ends. Contents written in throughout in pen and pencil and swelled by pasted in or loosely inserted photographs, newspaper and magazine cuttings, etc. Envelope detached and missing from the back. Very good. A book designed for recording the details of a family with a fold-out family tree at the end and an envelope for hiding the Family Secret. A unique opportunity to compare the creator's own copy with one that is unfilled. From the loosely inserted typed Memorandum of Agreement for the book, signed by both Francis and Alice Meynell, via reviews clipped from Vogue, Country Life, Homes & Gardens and the TLS, with the author's signature ('Ivy Germaine Madeleine Skinner May 1936') on the flyleaf, to her entry in Who's Who in Art and her husband's obituary pasted to the rear endpapers, this is stuffed (as intended) with her own family. Wedding photos, telegrams, letters and drawings fill the pages but the Family Secret remains just that.…
