Participants define the special function of the federal agency scientist [essay by John Clark], the social responsibility of the scientist [by Robert M. Shealy], and the need for research in support of environmental regulation [by Robert V. Kriegel]. Historical and future objectives of the Gulf Breeze Laboratory are also reviewed.".
