CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Covers are lightly worn, soiled, and spotted; gilt on spine bright. Interior front hinge repaired, else pages are age-toned and solid. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: This well-traveled unit fought in three theaters and is recognized as one of the FOX 300 Fighting Regiments. After some active service with Reno's Brigade in North Carolina, it returned to Virginia with the Ninth Corps, in August 1862 and fought at Manassas. Transferred to Kentucky, it participated in the Vicksburg & Jackson Campaigns. Following, it was moved to the Army of the Potomac in early 1864. In the siege of Petersburg, the regiment occupied an exposed position in the trenches, losing men while being under constant fire; the nervous strain and fatigue was reported as being intense. Well done regimental history, here with a nice regimental association. REFERENCES: DORN NH30; NEVINS I pg 112: "Although the author laid claim to using his wartime diary as a base for this study, comrades stories and recollections predominate; this regiment saw service in three different theaters." FOX Regimental Losses pg 140.
