Hardcover. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. NB: No dustjacket. Beige cloth with title in gilt on spine. Condition: Fair, covers have general shelfwear with some sunning and foxing to spine. The cloth of the spine is also quite worn. Internally the book is in good condition. Binding sound, no inscriptions. 127pp. 150 illustrations, si…x in colour, the remainder in b/w. Good reading copy. Jack Beddington CBE (1893-1959), who chose the selection of young artists in this book is best known for his work as publicity director for Shell in the 1930s and as head of the Ministry of Information Films Division during World War II. He was keen on encouraging young artists who had yet to make a name of themselves, and the book includes images of work by artists such as Joe (Joseph) Tilson, Fred Yates and Charles Keeping amongst work by many others lesser known but of high quality. To the rear of the book are address and art training details for each artist.

Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. First edition, limited to 500 copies. Hardback in dustwrapper. 23 × 18cm, 23pp. This copy has been signed and dated by Mary Kessell to the ffep. It has been additionally signed by Jack Beddington. Mary Kessell was a British figurative painter, illustrator…, designer and war artist. She became well-known for her drawings of refugees and survivors of the recently liberated Bergen-Belsen. Jack Beddington was the publicity director for Shell in the 1930s for which Mary Kessell worked. He was also responsible, with john Betjeman, for the Shell county guides. With eight drawings (frontis & 7 full page plates) by Mary Kessell, this is Osbert Sitwell's poem of a fisherman's wife and mother. The illustrations are incredibly stylish. Condition: Good plus condition. The book itself is in strong readable condition, but has light comprehensive foxing to the title page and frontis and, to a lesser degree, throughout the book. It remains in strong readable condition. There's a slight lean to the spine. The dustwrapper has foxing and tanning to the edges, with slight loss at the spine ends, but has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve. Signed by Illustrator(s).
