[1891] 31.5x24cm, copy # 40 of 50 printed on (heavier) Japan paper (of a total edition of 550), 164 (iv)pp. This has been noted as an excellent biography of Millet, and is il…lustrated with 17 etchings by Frederic Jacques, 8 of which are after some of the best-known Millet works. There are also 4 other in-text illustrations plus another in the middle of the title page.+++CONDITION: this is an ex-library copy though not badly so. The work has been rebound relatively recently (within the last 40 years or so is my guess) in blue cloth, and is very sturdy. The binding has a gilt-printed (though not embossed?) call number at spine bottom, and also has the library name rubber stamped on the page edges. The title page has various library markings including a perforated stamp, and there are various stamps on the rear free endpaper. All that said, there are no stamps on the images, which are clean and bright. Scholar's copy, I would say, though the etchings probably rise above that.
