Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the water chemistry of Redwood Creek and Mill Creek basins in Redwood National Park, California. The author collected two years of data to study the impact of logging on water quality in the basins. The research was comprehensive, consisting of synoptic studies during storms, diel studies at low flow, and regular measurements and analyses. The author found that the chemical water quality of the main stems and tributaries studied was generally of excellent quality, indicating the overall health of the park's water resources. The research also suggested that dissolved calcium and bicarbonate in stream water are produced by weathering of the Franciscan assemblage underlying the basins, but that chlorides are transported inland from the ocean as dry fallout and spray and in rain. The results highlight the importance of responsible land-use practices to protect water quality in pristine environments like Redwood National Park. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This book explores Yeatss later poetry through the metaphor of the poetic tower, where different kinds of building architectural, textual, political and symbolic were closely interrelated. It chronologically examines Yeatss tower poems, composed during a period of dramatic personal and national transformation, from 1915 to 1932. Within a year after the Easter Rising in Dublin, Yeats acquired a half-ruined Norman tower in County Galway, Ireland, which had enthralled him for the past two decades, and textually and architecturally constructed it into a focus of his life and work. Interweaving the account of the renovation of the actual building and the textual construction in the socio-historical contexts, the book reveals the evolution of Yeatss multiplex tower as an organizing principle of his later poetry. Using the archive of correspondence and manuscript materials of relevant poems, including those which have thus far escaped close attention, the book offers close textual-genetic analyses and a diachronic view of Yeatss tower poetry, which, with its foundations laid decades earlier, he built in the collections from The Wild Swans at Coole (1919) to The Winding Stair and Other Poems (1933). Highlighting the delicate exchange between poetry and biography as well as between the textual architecture and the actual one, identifying a turning point in the making of each tower-oriented poem and proposing some draft-dating revisions, this first book-length systematic study on the process of Yeatss creation of the tower casts an unfamiliar light on a familiar yet underexplored landmark in modern poetry and makes his step-by-step construction work come alive. This book explores Yeatss later poetry through the metaphor of the poetic tower, where different kinds of building architectural, textual, political and symbolic were closely interrelated. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book investigates the causes and effects of credit misallocation by Japanese banks in the 1990s and evaluates the bank-led rescues of financially distressed firms. The first chapter explains why Japanese banks shifted their loan portfolio toward the real estate sector during the 1990s despite the downtrend of land prices from the viewpoint of their risk-shifting incentives due to the deposit insurance system and/or the implicit bail-out guarantee by the government. In Japan, recapitalization by issuing subordinated debts helped banks recover their capital loss and mitigated an economy-wide credit crunch, but consequently allowed them to increase real estate loans and worsened the bad loan problems. The second chapter challenges the conventional view that Japanese banks monitor and discipline client firms in financial distress. The managers of financially distressed firms with strong bank ties did away with corporate restructuring by relying on financial support from their main bank and hence improved corporate performance significantly less than the firms without close bank ties in the heyday of the main bank system. 100 pp. Englisch.
