Income inequality has increased considerably in the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007-08 to the extent that one percent of global population possess almost half of the global assets. Whereas the development community is unanimous to tackle growing inequality and imbalance in the distribution of wealth, there is a difference of opinion as to the approaches to achieve this goal. This report presents a perspective from Islamic finance on how shared prosperity can be enhanced. The theoretical framework for economic development by Islamic economics and finance is based on four fundamental pillars:An institutional framework and public policy oriented to the development objectives of Islam;Prudent governance and accountable leadership;Promotion of the economic and financial system based on risk sharing; Financial and social inclusion for all, promoting development, growth, and shared prosperity. There is evidence that Islamic finance is experiencing high growth with the banking sector leading the way. Several countries are working seriously towards developing standards, regulation and legal frameworks for the development of Islamic finance. However, there are a number of aspects where policy interventions or improvements in policy effectiveness are needed to develop Islamic finance to promote shared prosperity. Without the enabling environment, Islamic finance may not be able to attain the potential expected of it.With adequate policy interventions and enabling financial infrastructure, Islamic finance could become a catalyst for alleviating poverty and inclusive prosperity. The key findings of the report include a need for sound regulatory framework for Islamic financial institutions due to the obvious differences from the conventional banks, harmonizing of Shariah standards and more discourse related to the underlying mechanism of Islamic financial products. Islamic capital markets both equity and Sukuk (Islamic bonds) are vital for the development of Islamic financial markets. Finally, instruments of Islamic social finance and redistribution could contribute further to enhance the shared prosperity.

Three rare issues of the Egyptian monthly "The Islamic World", published by the Egyptian journalist Mahmoud Abul Faid El Menoufi (1882-1972) in Arabic as well as (for features in the early issues) in English and French. El-Menoufi founded several Sufi-leaning Islamic periodicals through which he campaigned against the British occupation of Egypt. - The three issues at hand contain, inter alia: 1) Moharam 1369 (October 1949): an article in Arabic with statistics for the 1369 pilgrimage, articles in English ("Medina and the Mosque of the Prophet") and French ("Introduction au Livre de l'Existence"). - 2) Alqueda 1370 (August 1951): an illustrated article in Arabic about the pilgrimage of the late Muhammad Labib al-Battanuni in the year 1327 (1909), described in his book "Al-Rihlat al-Hijaziyya". - 3) Moharam 1371 (October 1951): an article in Arabic on the performance of the 'Umrah and Hajj pilgrimages, with a paragraph on the visit to Mecca by King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud for the performance of an 'Umrah and the return of Prince Faisal from his official visit to London. - Some fraying to wrappers; old rust stains from staples. A well-preserved ensemble of a very rare periodical. - OCLC 459477009.

Añadir al carritoNone. Condición: None. Three original watercolours on paper, each ca. 12,5x17,5 cm (5 x 6 ¾ in), mounted within ink-drawn frames on the original white album leaves ca. 21x27,5 cm (8 ¼ x 11 in). All watercolours captioned in period ink on the mounts. Overall very good scenic watercolours. Three attractive watercolours drawn by a British traveller during his journey to the Middle East in 1892-1893, when he also visited Egypt and the Holy Land. The watercolours focus on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria and show the Roman aqueduct and Maqam shrine ("Moslem Kubbeh") in Cherchell, and the environs of Mustapha Superieur. Overall beautiful watercolour views of Algeria.

Añadir al carritoNone. Condición: None. Oblong folio ca. 32,5x42 cm (13 x 16 ½ in). Six grey card album leaves. With 56 mounted gelatin silver prints, including a three-part panorama ca. 6,5x32,5 cm (2 ½ x 12 ¾ in.), the other photos are ca. 7.5 x 13 cm (3 x 5 ¼ in.) or slightly smaller. All photos captioned (and many dated) in period manuscript blue ink on the mounts. Recent brown cloth album with embossed design on front cover. One image partially detached and folded, one with repaired tear, a few photographs with mild rubbing or fading and many photographs showing the traces of the adhesive, otherwise a very good album with strong sharp photographs. Album with interesting snapshot photographs of the villages and cities located on the Nile River banks from Ibrim (Lower Nubia, Egypt) to Kosti (present-day White Nile state of Sudan). Apparently taken by a young British military man on service in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, the album includes views of the Abu Simbel rock temple (before it was moved in 1968 during the construction of the Aswan High Dam), Wadi Halfa, Khartoum (White Nile bridge to Omdurman under construction, British barracks - with two images of a sand storm closing over the barracks, native boats on the Blue Nile in Khartoum, the White Nile in flood, the junction point of the White and Blue Nile, nearby Moghren village, Khartoum-Omdurman ferry boat), Omdurman (native market, buildings on the Nile bank, a street in the native quarter), Ad Douiem (local people on the Nile bank, British Governor's house, native market, prison cart, White Nile Police officers), Wad-Alzaky, Kosti (railway station, mosque, bridge under construction, native village, native market, "S.S. Fateh alongside at Kosti"), and others; there are also photos of the local fishermen and children, and several views of the White Nile, with two photos showing the felucca race on July 15, 1924. The album closes with a three-part panorama of Port Said harbour taken in 1926 from the "Fleet Frozen meat store," showing the Navy House (destroyed during the 1956 Suez Crisis), the Suez Canal Company Office and naval cruisers docked nearby. Overall a nice photo collection of views of Egypt and Sudan along the banks of the Nile River.
