Text-Book of Skin Diseases by Dr. Isidor Neumann, Lecturer on Dermatology at the Imperial University of Vienna, was translated from the second German edition by Alfred Pullar, M.D. (Edin.), Physician to the East London Hospital for Children, and published in London by Robert Hardwicke, 192 Piccadilly, in 1871 (MDCCCLXXI). This is the first English-language edition of Neumann's influential dermatological textbook, illustrated throughout with sixty-seven woodcuts depicting skin conditions and pathology as understood in the period. Neumann was among the leading Continental dermatologists of the 19th century, and this text was an important vehicle for bringing Viennese dermatological scholarship to an English-speaking medical readership. Condition & Binding: The original binding is black/dark brown cloth-covered boards over what was likely a blind-stamped or patterned paper-covered board (visible in the detached board image). The front board is missing entirely, the back board is fully detached from the text block, and the spine is disbound, with the sewing/cords exposed, frayed, and only marginally holding signatures together. There is visible fraying and loss along the spine edges of the remaining boards, exposed binder's board/cardboard at the hinge areas, and general wear consistent with heavy historical use and age (155 years old).
