A fine copy of the first printing. *** "In the saga of American art's coming-of-age, Robert Henri (1865-1929) and John Sloan (1871-1951) stand tall among those in the vanguard of the campaign. These two major American artists were kindred spirits who maintained a special friendship throughout their lives, from the moment they met in 1892 until Henri's death thirty-seven years later. This volume offers the first publication of the full correspondence between the two painters. These intimate letters capture the opinions, working habits, and various traumas of Henri and Sloan, thus casting a new light on their lives and art. Many of the letters are illustrated with previously unpublished drawings - Henri's quickly sketched caricatures and Sloan's more carefully detailed compositions." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: List of Illustrations; Acknowledgments; Preface; Editorial Note; Introduction; Mrs. John Sloan; 1893 to 1899; 1900 to 1909; 1910 to 1919; 1920 to 1929; Epilogue; Chronology; Selected Publications: John Sloan; Selected Publications: Robert Henri; Index. He served as the Commissioner for the Bureau of Indian Affairs during the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration from 1933 to 1945. Collier worked tirelessly to promote policies that respected Native American cultures, traditions, and sovereignty. His efforts aimed to improve living conditions, education, and land rights for indigenous communities. His tenure as Commissioner left a lasting impact on Native American policy and administration. His commitment to understanding and respecting tribal customs influenced his work on cultural preservation and documentation. --- Ira Moskowitz (1912 2001) was a Polish-born artist who dedicated much of his life to creating Judaic art. His work reflects themes related to Jewish culture, religion, and history. --- Moskowitz s art resonates with the spiritual and cultural aspects of Judaism. His pieces often feature symbolic motifs, biblical narratives, and scenes from Jewish life. He contributed drawings, lithographs, and etchings to the book. His visual representations enhance the reader s understanding of the intricate dance forms. His artistic legacy includes a wide range of works on paper, prints, and paintings. His dedication to Judaic themes has left a lasting impact on the art world, and his pieces continue to be appreciated by collectors and enthusiasts.
