This is the English-language version of the catalogue of the Berlin exhibition, FRAGEN AN DIE DEUTSCHE GESCHICHTE. The exhibition comprises 7 halls, and the book has a chapter for each: Political Awakening and Congress of Vienna; Pre-1848; The Revolution of 1848/49; Industrial Revolution and the Establishment of the Empire - Imperial Germany; The Weimar Republic; The Third Reich; Establishment and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany. Two fold-out charts are included in a pocket at the end. Bound in the original pictorial coated cardstock. From the Introduction, "Opened in 1971 and expanded in 1974, the historical exhibition in Berlin's Reichstag building reflects that period of German history when essential foundations were laid for our nation's current governmental, social, and economic system and illustrates the forces, ideas, and decisions from which this system developed. The exhibition points out the far-reaching changes which occurred throughout out the world, and the political situations which decisively affected Germany's historical development during the 19th and 20th centuries are analysed (sic) in detail. In keeping with its fundamental significance for the present time, the historical development of parliamentary democracy with its ups and downs receives particular emphasis. The steady stream of visitors which has continued for almost two decades and the brisk demand for the exhibition catalogue testify to a widespread and lively interest in knowing more about this period of German history, understanding it better and, last but not least, coming to grips with it. In response to advances in historical research and to current developments, the exhibition has been continually expanded and developed further, especially the sections concerning the Federal Republic of Germany, parliamentary Berlin and the Weimar Republic. The fourth edition of this book about the exhibition is intended to fulfil (sic) the function it has already performed so well in the past: providing an introduction to the exhibition as well as a conherent (sic), vivid, and multi-faceted picture of German history from 1800 to the present, whether the material is read after a visit to the exhibition or independently of such a visit." Full title: Questions on German History : Ideas, Forces, Decisions from 1800 to the Present : Historical Exhibition in the Berlin Reichstag, Catalogue, 4th (Updated) Edition. Fourth Edition, revised and enlarged. Trade Paperback. Fine condition. 530pp.
