Three plates from drawings by Tegetmeier Quarto This signature shows signs of previously having been sewn; also slight foxing, worn and closed tears on fore-edge, and tearing down the very ragged spine fold. However, the areas covered by the text and illustrations are clean For The Seven Deadly Virtues see Evan Gill 151 An inter…esting and unusual part proof of a work which in its final edition was only published in 250 copies. The original MS was dated 24 July 1933: this proof shows it at an advanced stage, set in Joanna. The tirade dates from a period in which Gill's proselytising was particularly prolific. It is hard to know whether text or illustration is more satirical - Gill alludes to 'the purity of his [Tegetmeier's] intentions and the blamelessness of his home life.' 9 pages, comprising bastard title, frontispiece, and pp. 5-8 and 15. These latter contain Eric Gill's Foreword, which here comes with a correction in ink in an unknown hand, overwritten by 'stet' in pencil, also in an unknown hand. The bastard title has been decorated with a large pencil sketch.
