Top edge gilt. Joshua Reynolds' "Discourses on Art" consists of lectures he delivered to students at the Royal Academy in the late 18th century, focusing on art theory and the education of artists. These discourses summarize three centuries of art theory and influence attitudes leading into the 19th century. These discourses were primarily aimed at educating students at the Royal Academy of Arts, which he helped establish. This edition also includes three letters to 'The Idler', and an introduction by Austin Dobson. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling and designs on the spine.
