First UK edition, first printing. Contemporary half leather binding with marbled paper to the boards, five raised bands and gilt titles and decoration to the spine. Illustrated with four black and white plates and in-text illustrations by Otto Speckter. A very good copy, the binding firm, the extremities with some wear, the corners a little bumped. There is a bookplate to the front pastedown and some foxing throughout, including to the plates. Free from previous owners' inscriptions. A collection of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, including 'The Shoes of Fortune', 'The Fir-Tree', 'The Snow-Queen', 'The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep', 'The Elfin Mound', 'The Leap-Frog', 'The Elder-Bush', 'The Red Shoes', 'The Bell', 'Holger Danske' and 'The Emperor Frederic Barbarossa'.
