Preface Art has the strength and capacity to pose difficult questions about our society - questions that need to be asked and discussed. Art can therefore provoke unexpected reactions and sentiments. But it can also generate conflicting personal emotions. When 1 first saw the works of Petri Hytonen I was fascinated by how he could combine seriousness with humour and how the same picture summoned feelings of both joy and sadness. For me these works symbolize the dream - our desire and loss. When we are young we cannot wait to grow up as fast as possible but once we've arrived all we often want is to leap back in time and recapture our dreams where everything seemed so easy. h, Petri Hytonen loves to tell stories. In his works he enters the world of the child, showing their endless creativity and imagination. We observe fantasy and dream cities, built of Lego cubes, assuming endless shapes - they are built, then demolished or changed; a new order is created constantly. Dolls take on different roles, characters and identities, and all kinds of figures fly or wander around in his landscape. In this world anything is possible and everything can happen, The artist draws inspiration for his works primarily from the creative world of his own children whom he relentlessly observes and documents, but he is also inspired to a great extent by old photographs, films and cartoons. Although these works transcend an atmosphere of playfulness - humour as well as warmth - they also raise questions, These motifs become objects of desire, of loss and memory. They remind you of the loss of your own childhood and innocence, of the ceaseless creativity of childhood before the restrictions and cultural prejudice of our society begin to limit us as persons. They tell us about role-playing in search of an identity and individual personality, They convey the adventure and inventive force of imagination. They ? express time that has passed never to return. And they make us wonder where dreams' limits lie and where the line between fantasy and reality can be drawn. 48 pages.

Añadir al carritoA survey of Petri Hyt÷nenÆs work of the last decade, demonstrating how self-reflection of past works have functioned as inspiration for future works. During the period 1988-1993, his techniques varied from oil paintings to watercolors and drawings, through mixed media and collage. From 1993-99, he used different techniques in watercolor to create narrative-based work. In his largely figurative and intricate works, he draws inspiration from his immediate surroundings, both physically and mentally, as evidenced by the names of his works, such as: Returning from Sleep; Shame and Silence Behind the Curtain; A Moment of Silence; et. al. , English/ Finnish, Year1999, Illust.
