Sculptor, Pop artist, and creator of Environments. *** "The one hundred and thirty-two illustrations in this volume convey the impact of Segal's works and chart his course as one of America's most influential sculptors. Segal gained fame in the days of Pop with his true-to-life plaster figures of lower-and middle-class Americans engaged in everyday activities. In pieces like The Red Light and Walk, Don't Walk, his glum waitresses, bored gas-station attendants and aimless pedestrians trapped in utilitarian environments have been mirrors held up to the face of postwar American life with its aridity and loneliness. The political undercurrent in Segal's works emerges forcefully in his Kent State: Abraham and Isaac and Gay Liberation. As the book makes clear, Segal has employed his groundbreaking techniques to explore more intimate themes as well. Embracing Couple and Nude on Redwood Chaise are tender celebrations of erotic love; Girl Drying Her Knee reveals a surprisingly classical grace and purity of line. These and many other works pictured attest to the many dimensions of an artist who has been called 'a poet of the mundane.'" - Publisher. Size: 4to. Collectible.

One of our greatest American artists, he redefined what materials were suitable for art, boldly rebelling against the predominant abstract expressionism of the time. This insightful analysis into Rauschenberg's work and life examines his bravery in pushing beyond technical and aesthetic frontiers as well as his influential dissemination of photography, film, and television, which altered the genre of traditional painting. Rauschenberg's seminal works--from his 'combines' (urban trash on painted surfaces) to his silk screens--are reproduced here in full color. The author also discusses some of the artist's more recent projects, including ROCI, Rauschenberg's own exhibition organization that showcases diverse artists from all over the world. Through beautiful photography and authoritative text, here is a well-rounded overview of one of the world's most pivotal artists." - Publisher. Size: 4to.

Publishers 1978 13 1/4" x 12 3/8" Noguchi Isamu, November 17, 1904 December 30, 1988) was an American artist and landscape architect whose artistic career spanned six decades, from the 1920s onward. Known for his sculpture and public artworks, Noguchi also designed stage sets for various Martha Graham productions, and several mass-produced lamps and furniture pieces, some of which are still manufactured and sold. In 1947, Noguchi began a collaboration with the Herman Miller company, when he joined with George Nelson, Paul László and Charles Eames to produce a catalog containing what is often considered to be the most influential body of modern furniture ever produced, including the iconic Noguchi table which remains in production today. His work lives on around the world and at the Noguchi Museum in New York City.
