Endsheets are a garish faux-marbled red cut from light cardstock. We see no damage to any leaf whether a page of illustration or one of text. However, the backstrip of volume I is roughly detached (the remnant is laid in), leaving the spine binding-surface looking grim. Even so, though slightly weakened, both front and rear hinges are holding well, without gaps or tears to the endpapers. Lower corner-tips show a bit of card. Very technically- and mechanically-oriented, it's divided into the following major sections: The Optical Lantern; Motion Head; Photography; Motography; Motion Picture Theater; Electrical Principles. Although there are some interesting scene stills from films of the day, there is virtually nothing in this book about the actual individuals involved in bringing films to the screen (for that I would recommend Robert Grau's "The Theatre of Science," published the following year) -- but if you want to know about the operation and maintenance of any one of nearly a dozen different models of projectors then in use, or the details of working out a weekly budget for a "high-class store-front picture theater," or how a candy vendor might have been instructed to work the crowd between shows, this is the book for you! Note that this appears to be, essentially, a one-volume, updated edition of the 1911 "Cyclopedia" (the first part of the book is numbered through page 282, at which point (with the "Photography" section) the page number starts over again and finishes up at 297).
