Añadir al carritoHardcover. First edition. 8vo. 96 pp. + 6 pp. of additional material, "Appell an Amerika." Green wrapped boards. Main book is a transcription of three lectures given by Josef S. Bloch (Joseph S. Bloch) concerning the Jews of New York. Dr. Joseph S. Bloch, was member of the Austrian Parliament, where he took a notable part in com…bating anti-Semitism, especially in defending Austrian Jews against the blood accusation. Born in 1850, he was already recognized as a young rabbinic prodigy and genius at the age of 15, as he was quoted in the responsa of his teacher, the famed and celebrated Rabbi Josef Saul Nathanson at Lemberg in one of his responsa. In 1883 he founded a periodical, "Oesterreichische Wochenschrift," with the aim to defend the political rights of the Jews, to refute unjust attacks, and to inspire its readers with courage and faith in the conflict that had been forced upon them. As his career progressed, he became one of the most well known speakers against Anti-Semitism. The second bound in work, "Appel an Amerika." is by Alfred Hugenberg (1865 - 1951) who was an influential German businessman and politician. He was a member of Adolf Hitler's first cabinet in 1933. Both texts in German. Bumping to crown and foot of spine. There is a blue plate posted inside front cover stating: "This book was purchased with funds provided by the convergence on Jewish material Claims Against Germany in the attempt to restore the Vilna Yivo Library that was partially destroyed by the Nazis." Hinges starting. Rear endpaper detached but present. Book is in good condition.
