SIGNED by illustrator in blue ink on 'limited' page at rear. A classic work. Tan spine cloth is sunned with gently frayed crown and tail. A tiny chip at center of spine cloth, not impacting text. Rear book board has a slight abrasion, approx. 3/4". Volume is tight and clean with a prev. owner bookplate on front paste-down, that does not detract. Slipcase has splits at top and partly at bottom, but still quite tight overall. Sunned paper title on slipcase. Shadows of old tape repair at both board edges of slipcase/ (actual tape is non-existing now). Slipcase has done its job, protecting the volume, which is lovely. Overall, a fabulous copy of this classic. Edward A. Wilson * S I G N E D * (ilustrador). Signed by Illustrator(s).…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 2016 Cambridge University Press hardcover edition. Unread copy in very good condition. By presenting original research into British legal history, this volume emphasises the historical shaping of the law by ideas of authority. The essays offer perspectives upon the way that ideas of authority underpinned the conceptualisation and interpretation of legal sources over time and became embedded in legal institutions. The contributors explore the basis of the authority of particular sources of law, such as legislation or court judgements, and highlight how this was affected by shifting ideas relating to concepts of sovereignty, religion, political legitimacy, the nature of law, equity and judicial interpretation. The analysis also encompasses ideas of authority, which influenced the development of courts, remedies and jurisdictions, international aspects of legal authority when questions of foreign law or jurisdiction arose in British courts, the wider authority of systems of legal ideas such as natural law, the authority of legal treatises, and the relationship between history, law and legal thought. Contents: 1 The judicial interpretation of legislation in later thirteenth- and early fourteenth-century England by Paul Brand 2 The authority of parliament and the scope of the Statute of Uses 1536 by N.G. Jones 3 Developing a prerogative theory for the authority of the Chancery: the French connection by Ian Williams 4 Authority and precedent by David Ibbetson 5 Legislation and authority in early-modern Scotland by Andrew R.C. Simpson 6 The sources of early Scots consistorial law: reflections on law, authority and jurisdiction during the Scottish Reformation by Thomas Green 7 Conciliar authority and equitable jurisdiction in early-modern Scotland by J.D. Ford 8 Legal authorities as instruments of conflict management: the long endgame of Anglo-Hanseatic relations (1474-1603) by Alain Wijffels 9 History and the justification of governmental authority and individual rights in the age of John Locke and Samuel Pufendorf by Andreas Thier 10 The commissioners for claims on France and the case of the Baron de Bode, 1815-1861 by Michael Lobban 11 The authority of law in a bureaucratic framework: the nineteenth-century medicine stamp duty by Chantal Stebbings 12 The authority of treatises in English law (1800-1936) by Stephen Waddams 13 Maitland and Austin: legal history and legal thought in the late nineteenth century by John Hudson.…

Condición: Fine. 4th Edition. 4th ed ; 80 pages : illustrations ; 28 cm OCLC 42370499 ; photographic stiff paper wrappers ; February 22-24, 1991 ; Founded in 1988 by author, collector, and former high school English teacher Bruce Johnson, the Arts & Crafts Conference and Antiques Show has been recognized for more than two decades for its dedication to the education of the Arts & Crafts collector. Each February, the National Arts and Crafts Conference brings to The Omni Grove Park Inn & Spa the foremost authorities, authors, dealers, publishers, speakers, and craftspersons from across the country-all assembled yearly in one historic hotel for one landmark weekend. New collectors learn more here in one weekend than they can in an entire year anywhere else. Experienced collectors keep returning to renew treasured friendships and increase their knowledge and appreciation for the Arts & Crafts movement. ;The historic Grove Park Inn, now owned by Omni, is a perfect Arts & Crafts destination. Its interiors a tribute to the Arts and Crafts era of design, this Asheville historic hotel attracted the affluent and middle class of the early 20th Century with its reputation as a house of healing and comfort amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains. This tradition continues today as its one of a kind subterranean spa, its gorgeous sunset terrace views, and comforting natural interiors attracts visitors from all over, including many U.S. Presidents. Seminars and craft shows take place in Arts & Crafts-movement hotspots around the country. The one not to miss is the largest: a three-day conference and simultaneous antiques and juried contemporary crafts and furnishings shows, held in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the Grove Park Inn. At the shows, over a hundred antiques vendors and contemporary craftspeople fill multiple rooms and line the corridors of one wing; you'll see furniture, pottery, textiles, metalwork and jewelry, lighting, fine art But what makes this conference so special is its focus on education-deep learning. Hands-on workshops cover such things as embroidery and printmaking. Lectures are offered, and small affinity groups meet (pottery collectors, say, or people researching native plants in Arts & Crafts-era gardens). Opportunities run almost around the clock. House tours and walking tours are arranged. The skylit subterranean spa-"43,000 square feet of peace and quiet"-has mineral pools, therapeutic waterfalls, a lap pool with underwater music, eucalyptus steam rooms, fireside lounges with healthy snack options . . . and a full complement of treatments including European facials, body wraps, and massage. Dealers not only show their wares (both old and new) but also participate as lecturers and small group discussion leaders, generously sharing their knowledge with attendees, who range from entry-level to mature collectors. ; Contents: Architecture of the Arts & Crafts Movement / Wilbert R Hasbrouck -- George Ohr: The mad potter of Biloxi / Dr. Eugene Hecht -- Walt Whitman: Poet for the American Arts & Crafts Movement / A.
