The painter Heinrich Gustav Ferdinand Holm 1803-1861 was one of the finest artists of his time illustrating Copenhagen and the surroundings in lithography, watercolor and drawing. Even though he claimed artists like Thorvaldsen and Eckersberg as his friends, he had a hard time supporting himself as an artist; however, today his work is sought after and commands high prices at auction. His father was the printer Jens Holm 1776-1859 and his uncle the goldsmith Michael Holm 1774-1860. The research into the life of this unusual artist family was extensive.
