George and his wife Jean's names penned in Jean's hand on the front fly as well. George Houser helped found, in 1953, the American Committee on Africa (ACOA); from 1955-1981, he served as Executive Director of the ACOA and he also was Executive Director of The Africa Fund from 1966-1981. "At ACOA he spearheaded numerous campaigns supporting African struggles for liberation and independence. Since 1954 he. made over 30 trips to Africa. Tiny bump to spine tail, light rubbing lower edge, light outside dusting lower edge. Framfari was an Icelandic language newspaper published in a log printshop in Riverton, Manitoba, and was the first Icelandic newspaper in North America. It strove to inform the readership, educate the settlers in agricultural methods, foster a progressive attitude, and inspire loyalty among the early Icelandic settlers. It was only published for three years, and ceased publication on January 30, 1880 due to the internal divisions at the newspaper.
