It has given us the opportunity to publish shots that had to be omitted from Volume 1 on grounds of space (ie: the lack of it), and expand the coverage of prime steam locations such as Manchester Victoria and Exchange. But we've gone a little further, covering that period which I refer to as "the wilderness years" between late 1968 and 1973 when the only thing steaming on the main line was a solitary A3 in LNER green livery - and even that small respite lasted only until September 1969, when Flying Scotsman was shipped to America, to begin its ultimately abortive 'trade mission'.
