Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. First Edition limited to 1000 copies. Published 1985 by Manivelle Press (La Jolla, CA). Forward by Owen Mulholland. Text illustrations by the English artist, Brian Walker. Frontis cartoon by the French artist, Olivier Raynaud. Book design by Horace Dodd. Dust jacket is almost pristine. One small clear tear at the top front that has been taped from the inside. Book itself is pristine and like new. The story unfolds during April 1942, when gas rationing is imposed in wartime. The author, an army surgeon, starts commuting to work by bicycle. Clifford Graves recounts humorous early experiencesbeing outpaced by a colonel with a horse who promptly sells it. Key adventures include riding his bicycle into London during an air raid, smuggling it across the English Channel on D-Day, evading German tanks in the Battle of the Bulge, and cycling through the ruins of Berlin. He reflects on the solace the bicycle gives him in the Black Forest, encounters a salty boatswain, and eventually returns to the U.S. to lead cycling-related youth organizations, including the International Bicycle Touring Society. The tone is a mix of reflection, light humor, and vivid wartime and peacetime travel stories. (BR) Shelf 103.…
