Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. A Complete, Exceptionally Clean Annual Run of a Famous Early Victorian Sunday Newspaper. Volume XX (20) complete, comprising all weekly issues from Number 996 (Sunday, January 12, 1840) through to Number 1,046 (Saturday, December 26, 1840). Massive folio format. Bound in the publisher's original plain red cloth, which has done its job perfectly across nearly two centuries. Content Highlights: An unparalleled primary source for the year 1840, featuring extensive, immediate weekly reporting on the Royal Wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the subsequent assassination attempt on the Queen by Edward Oxford, the birth of the Princess Royal, the escalating Chartist unrest, and rich contemporary theatre, literary, and court gossip. Each issue retains its original red newspaper tax stamp printed in the margin. Condition: The original red cloth boards are in Fair condition, showing significant wear, rubbing, and aging to the joints, spine, and edges. However, the binding remains structurally secure and the internal text block is in remarkable, choice condition. The heavy newspaper sheets are exceptionally clean, crisp, and bright throughout, entirely free from the heavy damp-staining, tattering, or foxing usually suffered by archival newsprint. . Light, occasional marginal tears are present to a few leaves, though these are strictly confined to the blank edges and do not affect the text or stamps in any way. A robust, highly desirable historical survival. p.624 as required. Note: John Bull was a famously scandalous, fiercely Tory weekly Sunday newspaper founded in 1820. It was notorious for its biting political satire, theatrical gossip, and unyielding support for the traditional establishment.A complete annual run fro.…

Añadir al carritoHardbound. Second. Black buckram with gilt lettering on spine, Vol. I; [xix], 362pp, Vol. II; [2], 424pp, no illustrations. This is a two-volume set. Edited by "Theodore Hook, Esq." which through research is presumed to be the actor Abraham Joseph Bernard, or Fleury. Funny and interesting set that is in a sense more memoirs of Fleury than anything. Good read. Good, reading copies. Ex-lib. with pockets in back, ID on spine, perforation and regular stamps, library stamp on text block, interior binding cracked and some pages could become un-attached, some general age toning, wear, and occasional fingerprints inside.
