Numerous photographs. 96 pages clean and tight. This is the latest in the series of OPC pictorial books depicting diesel locomotives and multiple units at work throughout the British Rail system. Photographs range from the earliest days of diesel traction to the present day and the introduction of 'Sprinters'. The area covered in this volume includes some of the most beautiful scenery in the British Isles. The delightfully green and gentle Conwy Valley contrasts with the stark, slate-covered mountains of Blaenau Ffestiniog and the busy holiday resorts of Colwyn Bay and Rhyl, along with the peaceful stretches of rocky coastline north of the Dovey Estuary. Although neither city is in the Principality, both Chester and Shrewsbury have been included as each forms a rail "gateway" into Wales. The variety of scenery, motive power and the inclusion of semaphore signalling has enabled the authors to put together a particularly interesting and pleasing selection of illustrations, all of which have detailed captions.
