There is racial and sexual equality, but beyond that , from my perspective, there is much in the novel that conjures doubt as to the actual 'utopian reality' of the world Wells envisages. Such a closely structured and ordered "Samurai" culture as Wells describes, seems a bit too much order and not enough freedom ? so that, in my opinion, A Modern Utopia is actually A Modern Dystopia ? but maybe I am nitpicking. The novel was very influential on the thinking of a generation of young intellectuals.
