Bright orange cloth, black & blue lettering w/ tiger unit patch insignia in blue & black on front cover (slightly cocked, very minor shelfwear), w/ d.j. splendid Arthur Hawkins cover art (light rubbing, edgewear, slight dustsoiling, faint old scotch tape ghosting at lower corner), still a VG/VG copy signed by Flying Tiger and Army Air Corps World War II ace, "Tex" Hill on title. First edition, 1st printing, signed by "Tex" HIll, of this excellent early wartime account of the Flying Tigers under Chennault in Burma and China, who within six months flying 70 American aviators flying for China downed more than 286 Japanese planes. Captain Hill (1915-2007) had resigned his commission in the U.S. Navy in 1941 to join General Clair Chennault in Burma, and became a flight leader with the Second Pursuit Squadron of the A.V.G. and destroyed 12 Japanese aircraft in an 8 month period, and after the US Army Air Corps entered the War, he fought with the 75th Fighter Squadron, and later commanded the 23rd Fighter Group. He was the first pilot to down a Japanese Zero with a P-51 Mustang, and destroyed 18 more enemy aircraft, placing him among the top American fighter aces, and later commanded the 412th Fighter Group, as well as flying the Bell XP-59 and Lockheed P-80.…
